Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be notified how much the shipment is and how much my credit card will be charged ahead of finalizing?
Yes! An email will be sent out approximately two weeks prior to your club processing with the option to customize your shipment. This will determine your final cost. If you have any questions, you can always email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and one of our Club Experience team members will get back to you.
Can members decline the charge at that time (since according to the website, we don’t know exactly how much the shipment is)?
Yes! There is no long-term commitment to join the 1869 Club and you can cancel your membership prior to any shipment without being charged, except for the one-time $50 deposit.
Does the $50 fee serve has a contract for the shipments?
No. The $50 deposit is to secure your first allocation and seniority number in the 1869 Club. This deposit will be deducted from the cost of your first shipment. If you decide to cancel your membership prior to the inaugural shipment, this deposit will be forfeited. However, you have no obligation to purchase the inaugural shipment or future shipments.
If I indicate my wine preference, will I only receive that kind of wine?
No. Your wine preference (white, red or both) will only set your default shipment configuration for the six bottles to be packaged in your vintage wooden crate. If you decide to change your preference, you can do so at the time of notice of the shipment after reviewing the selection of wines offered and the different configurations of wines. This means that before shipping, you will have the ability to choose how many bottles of red wine, chardonnay or brut you want in your wooden crate, based on availability. Your 1869 Club seniority number (lowest numbers have higher seniority) have access to choose their configuration first. Regardless of the wine package in the wooden crate you choose, you will also be able to purchase the other wines not included in your package or library wines offered. Our goal is to provide customization so you can enjoy the varietals you love.
When are the shipments?
1869 Club members will receive two club shipments a year, one in March and the other in October. Between these bi-annual core shipments, you will have access to a private member website to purchase additional bottles for your own enjoyment or to send as special gifts to friends and family. We also plan to have special limited releases available throughout the year that you will have exclusive access to but under no requirement to purchase.
How many bottles are in each shipment?
Each club shipment will be a minimum of six bottles in a vintage wooden crate. You will have the option to add additional wines to be shipped in a separate box along with the wooden crate with each club shipment. Outside of the core club shipments in March and October, as a club member, you have access to order additional wine or send special wine gifts to friends and family by logging into the private club website.
Can I get less than six bottles in a shipment?
No. All club shipments have a minimum of six bottles per shipment.
What is the seniority number?
1869 Club seniority numbers are assigned based on your sign-up date. The sooner you sign up for a membership, the lower your seniority number will be.
12th Gate Napa Valley’s wine collection is specially made for the Kappa Sigma brotherhood and is limited in production. Core club wines and special releases will be allocated to club members with the lowest seniority numbers first. We will also be holding special events at the winery and exclusive invitations to these events will be offered to members with the lowest seniority number first as well. If you are in the 1869 Club, you will have access to the amazing wines, but the seniority numbers will help manage the allocation of vintages that are in limited supply and invitations available to the special Kappa Sigma events.
